"The Dream Keeper" by Langston Hughes
Bring me all of your dreams, You dreamers
Bring me all of your heart melodies
That I may wrap them in a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too rough fingers of the world.
I was inspired by this beautiful poem when creating an assemblage titled "(You are the) Landscape of My Dreams"- a curled woman sleeps within a circle of trees. The scene rests on an antique table, a tiny half open drawer is filled with sharp stick fragments, and at the bottom, an alabaster egg safely rests on an old velvet cushion. This piece reflects a peaceful moment, when one's cares are replaced by the solace and protection of wild, natural things. (Currently on exhibit at Spring Bull Gallery, Newport, RI)
